Jabar Watson

Dellums Fellow | Jabar@justcitiesinstitute.org

Jabar does outreach work for Just Cities to help spread the word about Fair Chance Housing. He seeks to go to spaces and places where people do not know about this legislation, and works closely with members of All of Us or None to engage with families of formerly incarcerated individuals. Being a victim of politics and public policy, and his previous ignorance about how these factors impact his life, drives him to ensure that others in their respective communities are aware of public policy and the latest laws and rules that concern them. Jabar views public policy at the federal, state, and city level from a lens of how they need to BE in order to meaningfully repair the community.

Jabar was born and raised in East Palo Alto and had a beautiful yet complicated upbringing. After finishing his GED in prison in 1999 and further enriching his education on his own through independent studies, he is now finishing his Bachelor’s degree in American Studies at UC Berkeley with a Minor in Public Policy and Minor in Race and Law.
