Alex Pinigis

Policy Justice fellow | Alex@justcitiesinstitute.org

Alex was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, and moved to the Bay Area to study biology at UC Berkeley. He worked for 10 years at the Exploratorium, San Francisco's world-famous science museum, where he served in numerous Union roles including as chapter vice president and on the contract negotiations team. This work inspired Alex to pursue his Master's degree in Public Policy. While in school, he served as a union steward and strike captain for the UC student workers' historic 2022 strike.

Alex is inspired by the examples of his parents and labor movement predecessors to fight for racial, economic, and environmental justice in his work, and he is delighted to join the struggle with the staff of Just Cities and our many brilliant, tireless partners. Alex lives in Oakland with his wife and two dogs, and he enjoys biking, cooking, and tabletop games of all kinds.
